Launched in November 2014, the Investment Plan for Europe is the EU’s response to reverse the adverse impact of the economic and financial crisis. It has the potential to bring investments back in line with its historical trends.
The investment plan focuses on removing obstacles to investment, providing visibility and technical assistance to investment projects and making smarter use of new and existing financial resources. At the heart of the investment plan is the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) which is expected to trigger €315 billion in total new investment by 2018. By aiming to overcome current market failures by addressing market gaps and mobilising private investment, EFSI is helping to finance infrastructure and innovation projects as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-cap companies.
Since 2003, Microsoft has been a partner to Malta, supporting its strategy in IT and contributing towards making Malta a regional centre of excellence. This was done through a number of initiatives in trustworthy computing, cloud computing, big/open data, education, and driving economic growth. Most importantly it leads with a primary foundation to attract, invest in and develop the best people in the market, supporting them to grow exponentially as individuals and within the company. Moving forward, Microsoft Malta will be focused on continuing to enable our youth for success, driving economic growth, and being leaders in EU for hybrid cloud environments, both in the government and commercial sector. With each employee, Microsoft Malta remains committed towards establishing Malta as a beacon and leader in leveraging IT to support its citizens.
As one of Malta’s major drivers and promoters of innovation, it is natural that Microsoft Malta would support this year’s Malta Innovation Summit. One of our strongest links with Malta in fact is the Microsoft Innovation Centre which is one of only 110 MIC’s in the world. Since its establishment five years ago, the MIC has been delivering innovation everyday by bringing world-class resources to Maltese software developers, IT professionals, university students, academic faculties and entrepreneurs. Over the past five years, the MIC has hosted over 140 start-ups, 800 workshops and training courses for over 10,000 students, teachers and professionals and Microsoft’s investment in the MIC over the past 5 years has been of over €4 million. Innovation is the engine for economic success. This is why our support to the Malta Innovation Summit is in line with our commitment to play an active role in helping Malta achieve greater economic success.
